SEO - Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation involves a process whereby website content, organization and structure is optimised in such a manner as to improve its recognition by the various search engines. It also invovles other processes such as registering a website with these search engines, identifying and selecting optimal search terms appropriate to the content of each website, and targeted to the most obvious search terms you anticipate your target audience to use, and working with these terms continually over a period of time.

The aim? The aim is to increase the ranking - or position in which your website will appear in relation to other websites in a google or other search. Given the hundreds of thousands of websites in the world, whose content is similar to yours, it is quite a specialised field to ensure search results for your website appears high in the list - and hopefully on the first page.
