DIZZINESS AND BALANCE
PROBLEMS
Are you
dizzy? Does the world spin when you turn over in bed?
There are
many possible causes of dizziness but one of the most common is Benign
Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo or BPPV. It is a result of movement of
debris in the semicircular canals of the inner ear.
Blackwood
Physiotherapy has several physiotherapists who are trained to differentiate
BPPV from other types of dizziness and can treat it with specific techniques
which usually result in dramatic and permanent relief of symptoms in one or two
visits.
Another
very common problem is poor balance which can lead to falls and serious
injury. At Blackwood Physio therapy we have a Bone Health and Balance
program designed to accurately diagnose the cause of balance problems and to
treat it with exercises, either individually or in a small class. An initial
assessment will identify the relevant issues and which approach is more
appropriate.
Another
aspect which is included in this program is reduced bone density
which can lead to fractures especially with falls, so good balance is even
more important for those who have osteoporosis or osteopaenia. The program
includes the use of weights and whole body vibration(WBV) which have been
widely proven to be effective in treatment of reduced bone density.
If you would like an assessment, phone Blackwood Physiotherapy to book an appointment. Please mention that you have a dizziness problem or that you would like to participate in the Bone Health and Balance Program.
